Best Motorcycle Sound Input Devices

In my own experience I have tried many input devices with some success. I have installed xm satellite radio and had some problems with receiving signals. Plus, the radio would pick up engine noise, even with noise suppression devices. But I‘m sure this type of device would be fine professionally installed on larger bikes such as dressers. My success on my sport bike has been with ipod or iphone mounted via handle bar mounts as to giving excellent production of sound quality, screen access for viewing and access to operate. The iphone produces a lot more volume then the ipod, but this may not be the case with the newer generations of ipods or mp3 players. Plus, be sure and turn shuffle off as the vibrations would cause either device to change tracks. I like the iphone in wired application as I can hear when a phone call was coming in and I could view the call and pull over and return the call if needed. Plus, Iphone has the addition of Sirius or Pandora satellite apps and I use and enjoy Pandora all the time as well as there are voice directed gps apps as well that work well with iphone.  Also, iphone can be paired to the Bluetooth type communication devices such as cardio, scala and others; that allows taking calls while riding. Now there are a lot of selections of brand named marine type stereo receivers available for fairing type bikes. One needs to remember that devices mounted on handle bars are exposed to weather and most are not water proof and need to be protected. Myself during rain I place my iphone in my jacket pocket to keep it dry and this allows use during rain.  But as one looks at the many input devices there are just as many types and uses as one could want or need. It becomes personal preference. So look at the types and even try them out it you have riders with systems or dealers that can let you test them out. So much can be said in the mounting hardware as to how to attach your equipment to the bike. Many input devices usually provide options to mount their equipment. Think location as to ease of viewing, use, aesthetics and exposure; their are many manufacturers out there as their are types of mounting equipment. Motorcycle Sound System Helmets

Due to the miniaturization of technology, you can add tons of accessories to your helmet, such as GPS, CD and MP3 players, and communicators. You can add these motorcycle sound systems onto your helmet yourself, or you can buy helmets with these features built in. You can also choose between wired and wireless systems. In terms of quality, wired systems are usually better, but they leave wires hanging everywhere. Also, remember when installing these components that the more gear you have, the more you will drain the system’s battery. It’s also a good idea to consult with your helmet’s manufacturer before adding systems.

You can usually purchase a helmet with Bluetooth motorcycle sound systems built into it. These systems allow interaction between Bluetooth-enabled phones. These systems also allow for other inputs. You can install these systems yourself, or send them to the helmet manufacturer to have the system professionally installed. Professional installation is always a good idea because it produces a safer, higher-quality result. Revzilla, Motorcycle Superstore, and BikeBandit.com have great options for this type of system.

Saddlebag Motorcycle Sound Systems

Another of the motorcycle sound systems that work well for cruisers and baggers is the saddlebag sound system. This system is for bikes with integrated covers for hard-style saddlebags. This sound system would allow you to mount speakers to the back of your back via saddlebag lid speakers, in addition to speakers that you could mount or are already mounted to the handlebars or windshield of your bike. Sound Bars/Detachable Stereo Fairing

These motorcycle sound systems are forms that resemble a fairing, which is then attached to the handlebars or inside the windshield. If you have a naked cruiser, then these units might be the best for you. You can buy them either as a hull or with the stereo and speakers already built in. If you buy the hull, then you can install components yourself that meet your standards. Another advantage of detachable fairings is that they can be removed at the rider’s convenience. Check out The Bikers’ Den, Cycle Accessory Store, or Adventure Harley-Davidson to find yours.

Handlebar Motorcycle Sound Systems

These motorcycle sound systems feature speakers mounted on the handlebars via brackets. These motorcycle sound systems are pretty commonly seen on cruisers, which have plenty of handlebar space for mounting. Handlebar sound systems are also great for cruisers because they don’t cause steering obstructions. The speakers come in bullet style in chrome and black. They also come in various sizes and power rangers. Controls are usually mounted on the handlebars or in another place providing easy access for the rider. Amps and wiring are usually installed under the seat. To find great handlebar systems, go to The Bikers’ Den,Motorcycle Superstore

Fairing Motorcycle Sound Systems

Typically, fairing motorcycle sound systems are built on bikes that have a large fairing. They generally consist of marine stereos with waterproof speakers, which are cut into the fairing in factory-specific places or added by the dealers. In general, companies that produce bikes with built-in sound systems buy the most cost-efficient systems in bulk, then install this stock system on the bikes. Just as with other stock systems, there are better fairing stereos and speakers available for upgrade or self-installation. Check out Adventure Harley-Davidson, The Bikers’ Den, and Cycle Accessory Store for the best fairing sound systems.

Tank Bag Motorcycle Sound Systems

A tank bag motorcycle sound system is more of a specialty item. The Sportec cranker is probably the best version of this system that I’ve found. These motorcycle sound systems have integrated amplifiers, speakers, and MP3 capabilities, allowing you to listen to your favorite tunes on the road at highway speeds. It is molded and holds its shape, making it stylish and unobtrusive. It is magnetic, so it can be removed when not in use. A tank bag sound system can be battery-powered or it can be wired into the bike. It’s perfect for the rider on a limited budget. Motorcycle Superstore,

Mirror Motorcycle Sound Systems

There are many different styles of this sound system concept. Some of these motorcycle sound systems have speakers built into the mirror, while others have speakers attached to the mirror. Still others have entire mirrors as speaker systems. These mirrors can either replace the stock mirrors on the bike, or they can be mounted on the handlebar. They are very low wattage, though they are harder to hear at high speeds. You can find great mirror systems at Amazon.com and Motorcycle Superstore. Rocky Mountain ATV/MC is also a great source, and they offer free 1-3 day shipping.
